Ubisoft loss widens despite growth in first half sales

French game publisher Ubisoft reported EUR 293.35 million of sales in its fiscal first half to 30 September, up 5 percent on EUR 279.23 million in the year-earlier period. The sales increase reflects strong back-catalogue sales, up 16 percent, and sustained growth in the digital segment, where sales rose 29 percent. Its operating loss, on an IFRS basis, widened to EUR 113.98 million from EUR 60.25 million, after a significant increase in R&D costs, which rose to EUR 142.19 million from EUR 98.45 million in the first half of its 2012-2013 fiscal year. Ubisoft reported a EUR 62.34 million net loss in the six months to the end of September, versus a EUR 32.27 million net loss a year earlier.
